The Barnard Writing and Speaking Centers

Welcome to the Barnard Writing and Speaking Centers!

The Barnard Writing Center is designed to help students strengthen their writing in all disciplines and at any stage of the writing process. All writers, no matter how accomplished, can benefit from discussing their work with an intelligent reader and then revising it. Writing Center appointments are often hard to come by. Appointment are released a week in advance, so please make sure to sign up early.
The Barnard Speaking Program (founded in 2007) recognizes that speech is a vital part of our everyday lives. Speaking Fellows, thus, are trained peer-to-peer educators who collaborate with students seeking to practice and develop any form of verbal and non-verbal communication within and beyond academic spaces. You will only have the option to make an appointment face-to-face. The Speaking Center is on the 2nd floor of Barnard Hall, BAR 217.

The following schedules were created in partnership with its respective office to provide more opportunity to support Barnard students:

Calendar:

January 31st, 2025 - Appointments pre-released for Spring semester
February 4th, 2025 - Writing and Speaking Centers opens for the Spring semester
February 13th, 2025 - TEDx event (6:30-8pm)
February 28th, 2025 - Writing Fellow Application due at 12pm (noon)
March 15th- 23rd, 2025 - Writing and Speaking Centers CLOSED for Spring Break
May 5th, 2025 - Last day to use the Writing and Speaking Centers for Spring 2025
