Barnard Writing Center
The Barnard Writing Center, founded in 1991, is a student-staffed resource for writers across all disciplines and at all levels. Students can bring in their writing at any stage in the writing process and can expect to have a conversation about their ideas, style, and goals. Writing Fellows work with all writing: essays, applications for grad school/fellowships, short stories, poems, lab reports, and more! Writing Fellows are trained students who act as engaged readers, not tutors, teachers, or TAs. Fellows will engage with you in fruitful dialogue about the ideas, structure, and other broader elements of your writing. Writers of all levels benefit from discussing their work with an engaged reader! The Writing Center is located on the second floor of Barnard Hall, BAR 224 and 225. Appointments are limited and available one week in advance, so sign up early!
Barnard Speaking Center
The Barnard Speaking Center, founded in 2007, supports students in developing verbal and nonverbal communication skills for academic and nonacademic contexts. The Barnard Speaking Center aims to foster connection through dialogue, listening, and active engagement. Speaking Fellows tackled challenges such as speaking anxiety and clarity with the belief that there is not one type of "good speech." Speaking Fellows are trained peer educators who work with students in face-to-face appointments only. Speaking Fellows create learning environments that empower students to actively engage their own thinking processes and express what they want to say, how they want to say it! Speaking Fellows can work with you at any stage in the process and on anything speaking-related, whether you are preparing for a presentation, an interview, a tough conversation, or want to participate more confidently in class! The Speaking Center is located on the second floor of Barnard Hall, BAR 217. Appointments are limited and available one week in advance, so sign up early!
